Brief description on how you expect your character to start out: Since Raidou has always taken his orders from the 'Herald of Yatagarasu,' an entity who existed on a plane completely different from the Japan Raidou came from, it wasn't difficult at all to say that the Herald was working for Arcadia Central. Or, to put it another way... Yatagarasu works for the Mysterious Agency. So, when Jenova destroyed Raidou's world, the Herald sent him to Arcadia, where his talents at devil summoning and his notable obedience to the Herald could continue to be used by the Agency.

History: Shakko Masakazu was born in Taisho 2, or 1913, at the heralding of a conflict that would characterize not only himself but the whole of Japan as well. The struggle was between old and new, between the traditional old ways and the modernization of the Westerners. Raidou was fated to straddle that line his entire young life.

He grew up as a normal student, eventually going to Yumizuki High School, and his training remained only a hobby. He trained in the use of both revolver and katana, and further mastered the arts of Devil Summoning, all in preparation for the day he could take the mantle of Raidou Kuzunoha, protector of Japan and the latest in a long line of heroic Devil Summoners. It wasn't until after his seventeenth birthday that he finally made that dream a reality; after being tested by the Herald of Yatagarasu, he was found worthy and was appointed to his new station. The Fourteenth Raidou Kuzunoha, tasked with the protection of humanity from the demonic world. To this end, he received a familiar: Gouto-douji, a feline who had been serving the Kuzunoha line since the second summoner.

Of course, that would require him knowing who was being afflicted by the other side, without sounding like a raving lunatic in the streets. It required a cover story, and that, too, was provided by the Herald. The Narumi Detective Agency, run by Shouhei Narumi, already specialized in cases involving the occult. Matching Narumi and Kuzunoha proved to be beneficial for both of them. More for Narumi, rather; the tasks soon sorted themselves out into accepting cases and counting money (Narumi's job,) and everything else (Raidou's job.) But it still worked out all right; Narumi's advice more than made up for his overly laid-back attitude, and he was a suitable mentor for a young Devil Summoner. Things settled into a routine, and it seemed like the life of Raidou Kuzunoha would be an exciting, albeit routine, life.

Then he met Kaya Daidouji. She called the Detective Agency, and when the two men came to the agreed-upon location, she begged them to kill her. While both men were stunned by the sheer scope of that request, two strange soldiers, clad all in red, beat Raidou down and kidnapped Kaya, leaving only a brooch behind as a clue. But that one clue was enough.

What followed was a whirlwind investigation that took Raidou into the depths of a plot spanning decades, uncovering corruption at the deepest levels of Japan's Imperial Army, and the demonic curse that stained the Daidouji family. With the aid of a network of contacts, ranging from the sometimes-mad scientist Victor to the Yakuza and even Rasputin, a famed Dark Summoner whom Raidou had fought in the past... he'd managed to find out exactly what was going on. Everything had been arranged by a distant descendant of the Daidouji line, who had come to the past to change the future. That descendant, another who had claimed the mantle of Raidou Kuzunoha, who had sent himself back in time by possessing his ancestors, all working to create his own alternate timeline. Kaya Daidouji was simply the vessel he had finally succeeded in completing his mission with; with the power of the Soulless God, Yasomagatsu, he hoped to completely break free of the complex hierarchies of gods and spirits and create a new world.

When Raidou foiled that first plot, Gouto sacrificing his life to do so, the time traveler was banished to a realm outside of time, there to plan some way of going back into the time stream once more. But he was still in the body of Kaya Daidouji; this was utterly unacceptable for Masakazu. He dove into the time stream after Kaya, and in that place outside of reality, he did battle with both the time traveler and with the Soulless God. In the end, of course, he proved victorious; with his demons and his tenacity, even a 'god' was no match for him.

But that victory, which was supposed to grant him a peaceful victory and a new life, was fleeting. When he returned to his own time, he found that a great 'demon', greater even than Yasomagatsu, had invaded Tokyo and was laying waste to it. This 'demon', which he later learned was called 'Jenova', was so powerful that even the Herald of Yatagarasu cast Raidou's victory as an impossibility. Instead, the Herald gathered her power and sent him into Arcadia with a new charge. "Continue to serve humanity, and strive to save all from the assault from Jenova."

It was a charge that he was to take to heart, just as he always did.

Personality: Being a young Devil Summoner, there are two primary facets to Raidou Kuzunoha's personality. The first is his 'professional' image. When on the job, or even just in the public eye, he's Raidou Kuzunoha the 14th, Morning Star. He's professional, quiet, confident, and always in complete control, even when everything goes horribly wrong. He can be a bit brusque, commanding others like he commands his demons, but it's always for the best of those concerned. His primary goal is always the preservation of human life, and he goes to great extents to make sure that all innocents are kept safe and sound.

Despite that outward appearance, however... he is still an eighteen-year-old high school kid. He can be overconfident and full of himself, and sometimes he makes use of his powers for completely unprofessional reasons. Despite everything that he's gone through, he still has the idealism and enthusiasm of youth... or will, anyway. He had a crush on Kaya Daidouji, one that she had shared fully, but with Jenova destroying his world, he isn't sure that she survived or not. Then there was the death of Gouto, his cat familiar who had been a close friend of his, and the other allies and contacts he'd made along the way. He's lost a lot more than he ever has had before, and it will take some time for that heart-ache to go away.

But with everything else, he's a tough and adaptable guy; he'll keep putting his best foot forward.
